University Program Backs South Sudanese Azande Students in Uganda Launched in Arua and Bweyale by Father Emmanuel Datiro to support displaced students to continue with higher education

BWEYALE, Uganda — A university-led education program is supporting South Sudanese Azande students in Arua and Bweyale to continue their studies despite the challenges of displacement.The program, coordinated from West Nile, works with students who have struggled to remain in school after fleeing conflict in South Sudan.

According to organizers, financial hardship and lack of family support have been major barriers for many.Fr. Emmanuel Datiro, who is coordinating the initiative said that the goal is to keep students in class and connected to their academic path.

“I meet students who are smart, determined, and tired,” Fr. Emmanuel said. “Tired of explaining why they can’t pay fees. Tired of feeling invisible.”The program provides academic support, mentorship, and follow-up to help students complete their terms and pursue further studies.

It operates in Arua and Bweyale, with extended outreach in Kampala through local contacts Mbembe Anthony and Nelson Friday.Organizers say the initiative has come to help students stay enrolled and, in some cases, advance to higher levels of study.

“For us, this is about responsibility to the next generation,” Fr. Emmanuel said. “These young people have been through more than most adults.
